This book brings together texts by specialists on the First Portuguese Republic and renowned historians, who seek to place the regime of 1910-1926 in its troubled international context. The breadth of the themes addressed is considerable: the bilateral relations between Portugal and certain powers (Great Britain, Spain, Brazil, the Vatican, the US); structural questions, such as the country's financial situation, the diplomatic machinery and the colonial demension of Portuguese diplomacy; Portugal's intervention in the First World War; the impact of the Versailles Treaty and the League of Nations on the colonial world they created.
